The Spalted Maple, Live-Edge Table

This table-top is a slice of spalted maple. It comes from a tree that fell during a storm in the mountains of Western North Carolina, where we live. The tree was estimated to be 250 years old. As little worms bored through the tree during its dying years, they left trails of secretion that formed paths of color and beauty that only Mother Nature could accomplish.

We polished the wood and sealed it with a clear conversion varnish.

Trees this size and with this color and grain pattern are rare. To find one and give it a second life and a new home makes us proud. Imagine that it lived outdoors for the first half of its life and it can spend the next 250 years in some lucky person's home.
