Behind every piece of art there is an artist. Behind every artist there is a story. It is the story within the artist that gives them inspiration and unharnesses their imagination, allowing them to create things that astonish us and move us. We so love sharing our artists and their inspiration with you. We want you to know the whole story, so when someone asks, "where did you find that lovely piece”, you don't simply tell them where you bought it, you can add, “ And let me tell you the story behind it”…
At Charleston Forge we work with a lot of artists, beginning with design and creation of each piece. One of our designers, John Davis from Roanoke, Virginia, has a story about the concept behind the Monarch base. John was crossing an ancient arched stone bridge over a rushing stream in Sweden when he felt inspired to interpret the scene into a console for Charleston Forge. It was a grey day, cloudy and misting but the shape of that bridge piped rays of beauty into his imagination. Instantly he knew that the frame finish had to be done in our hand-rubbed antique silver, reflecting the character of that day. The path over the bridge was covered in fine small ebony colored stones, the likes of which he had never seen. So, he directed the solid maple top of the console to be a soft, alligator skin texture in our hand applied, ebony finish. Mission accomplished, a magnificent console, inspired by ancient shapes, interpreted into modern form.
This is the original Monarch Console as designed by John Davis.
And now more of the story...
Meet our Master craftsman, Ernie. Out in our factory, Ernie works hard with John's original drawings. He and his team then build each and every piece of the console by hand, carefully measuring each bend, cut and weld.
From John's original design, other stunning Monarch creations have emerged...

A cozy autumn evening in front of the fire most certainly should include indulging in sweet, melting s'mores. Hand forged skewers from CF Home's online store will toast the marshmallows perfectly. And on this particular autumn evening, we sandwiched the toasted marshmallows and melting chocolate between the best home made graham crackers we have ever tasted. Yum! They were baked from Susan Barber's personal recipe, which she will share with you. Just drop Susan an email with 'graham crackers' in the subject line. email@example.com
You can also purchase the skewers for yourself or as a gift, here on our online store:

Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. - Albert Camus
Very little compares to the colors of Autumn, waiting for those few days where the color is the ripest is a thrill for the nature lover. The fall color hasn't quite peaked here in the Blue Ridge mountains, Photographer Rusty Alberton's is sharing with his photos taken recently in Arizona, where fall is in full bloom. Enjoy!

We love seeing custom pieces come through our shop every day.
The scale of materials, and the finish combinations made this piece especially attractive. This table, shown in our Antique Pewter finish with a Saddle on Maple top complimented by vintage distressing, was custom made specifically for Interior Accents in London, ON, Canada.
Pure and Simple. It's what we do. We are Charleston Forge.

A few weeks ago, we had a customer contact Charleston Forge about creating a custom bed. They had a design complete with sketches, but they needed some details and some metal working talent to accomplish it. Our team worked together on this king size behemoth named "Recon" to the customers specifications.
While its difficult to show through a photograph how beautifully massive this piece is, it is just that... beautifully massive! There are really very few other ways to describe this work of art. After it was put together, waiting for its new paint, every person here at our Boone, NC location went out to the factory to see it, and the response was across the board: WOW.
(I am 6'0" tall, and felt dwarfed by this beautiful creation)
Just a note: The second photo in the series is of a member of our customs team working the metal that was to become one of the feet of this bed. The weight and size on their own was impressive, and provides a very sturdy base to this design.

At Charleston Forge, we are best known for our furniture. Our bakers racks, our dining tables, our drink tables, our swivel counter stools and chairs... even our beds which have had the pleasure of gracing the bedrooms of some of the top celebrities. However, what many don't realize is that we cater to a whole range of needs.
The Town of Boone, NC commissioned us a few years back to create street signs that looked classic, and remained sturdy (hey, it's what we're known for,) but also fit the small town feel of this quaint little place that has made it to so many "Best of..." lists (most recently being listed as number 4 on Forbes list of Fastest-Growing Small Towns.) We were more than happy to be a part of this project for this town were we live, work and play. Since that time, we have created signs for other main street areas in other states.
In addition, we have recently been a part of furnishing brand new upscale hotels, building lighting systems and a huge wine rack (which covers an entire wall) in a soon to open restaurant in Uptown Charlotte. We are in the process of creating table bases for a major golf course here in the south (stay tuned for that story within the next few weeks,) and although it's not something we do on a daily basis, we did design and create some beautiful banisters for an outdoor stone patio and entertainment area at a clients home. They could have gone with someone else, but they wanted our quality and our style along with our craftsmanship . We are so much more than furniture (although it is something we're great at.)
